Raku

Raku is a style of pottery that is characterized by low temperature firing and rapid cooling. Raku pottery does not reach vitrification and is not considered food safe. These items are ornamental only and are perfect for any home decor.

We fire our pottery in our hand-built raku kiln. Bisque pieces are placed in the kiln until it reaches approximately 1830° F. After firing, glazed pieces are placed in a container to ignite combustible material then covered to remove oxygen.

Other raku pieces are decorated using horsehair or by naked raku techniques. See pottery descriptions for more details.
